A Lifelong Battle

Christians have three enemies, the world, the flesh and the Devil. Some seem willing to fight against the world and the Devil but not against their flesh. They seem to have made peace treaties with their flesh. The battle does not mean we are lost. It is evidence that we are saved. The first step in defeating an enemy is knowing that we have one. The more we study the Bible, the more battles we will win against our three enemies.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

John knew about the victory we have in Jesus but he also knew about the lifelong battle we have with our enemies. We need to confess and forsake the sins of our flesh.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
